INTEGRATED BATTERY MONITORING
Understanding the health of your battery bank is critical. To help achieve this the Juice Lithium Ion battery has a complex battery monitor built into each battery. Furthermore this battery monitor is designed specifically to monitor the different characteristics Lithium chemistry has compared to conventional lead acid batteries. Information including voltage, net current and state of charge is displayed on the Juice Lithium Ion System Monitor and is used to allow the integrated BMS to work efficiently and effectively.
AUTO GENERATOR START/STOP RELAY
Further manage your battery system by using the batteries Auto Generator Start/ Stop relay. This allows the battery to send a signal to start a generator based on the batteries state of charge. At a user defined low state of charge setting the generator can be started to automatically recharge your battery bank then automatically stop once the bank is fully charged.
INTEGRATED BATTERY MONITORING SYSTEM - BMS
Managing a Lithium Ion battery is essential to ensure the battery can deliver all the advantages they are designed to offer. The integrated Juice BMS continually monitors individual cell voltages, currents and temperatures, and manages each cell to maximise it's performance. The BMS provides information via the Juice Lithium Ion System Monitor to help you manage your system and maximise battery life. In the event that these warnings are not followed the battery can automatically disconnect loads and charging sources independently from one another to protect the battery from damage to due over discharge, or over voltage.

CHARGE CONTROL RELAYS
Controlling battery charge sources independently to the main battery load contactor is an essential feature to Juice Lithium Ion batteries. It allows charges sources to remain connected and able to charge a battery when the battery load contactor has removed the load from the battery dues to low SoC. It also allows the BMS to only switch off the charge sources in the event of a charging issue, rather than also switching the battery load contactor off and plunging the vessel into black ship.
JUICEBUS DATA COMMUNICATION
Communication between batteries and the Juice Lithium System Monitor is achievable via the JuiceBus. This allows fast and reliable communication between different parts of the system to ensure smooth operation of all features.
To ensure maximum life from any Lithium Ion battery cell it is essential to have effective battery cell balancing. The better the balancing, the better the battery performance and longevity. With this in mind Juice Lithium Ion batteries are fitted with their own proprietary Bi-Directional Active Cell Balancing system. This unique system continually monitors each cell and actively moves energy bidirectionally between cells to ensure they are always balanced. Furthermore the cell balancing system automatically compensates for ageing cells to further maximise battery life.
INTEGRATED BI-DIRECTIONAL ACTIVE CELL BALANCING
Each cell temperature is continuously monitored with information used by both the BMS and cell balancing systems to accurately manage the battery and extend battery life and performance.
BATTERY CELL TEMPERATURE MONITORING
Each battery is fitted with its own SD logging card which records data from the battery. In the event of a battery issue this data can be analysed to determine the cause of the issue. This SD card can also be used for firmware upgrades making updating any software on the battery, or changing user defined functions simple.
INTEGRATED SD CARD
The integrated BMS manages the battery and has control over the required external battery load contactor. If low SoC warnings are not acted upon the BMS will disconnect the load via the external battery load contactor while leaving all charge sources connected to the battery. The contactor can either be manually overridden, or left for the BMS to automatically re-engage once charge is put back into the battery.
BATTERY CONTACTOR CONTROL
Displaying battery data on 3rd party monitoring screens or digital switching systems is easily achieved with NMEA compatible products via the batteries NMEA 2000 output.
NMEA 2000 OUTPUT
Testing to ensure any battery system is functioning correctly is essential to reliability and safety. To aid with this Juice Lithium Ion batteries have a unique System Test function. Using this feature will allow the battery to perform a self-test on the main battery load contactor, all charge relays, cell balancing system and BMS. Any issues are clearly shown on the Juice Lithium Ion system Monitor.
UNIQUE SYSTEM TEST FUNCTION
A set of battery inputs allow for some basic logic to control features on your Juice Lithium Ion batteries. This may include inputs to allow some load shedding to occur, or simply to ensure that the auto generator start/ stop feature only operates based on other conditions, such as time.
With battery banks of higher voltages becoming more common, the Juice Lithium Ion Professional series have been designed for series applications with an integrated series balancer. Now battery banks of 48V and higher can be installed while maintaining balanced cells across the entire string.
